How to Use Average Calculator

  1. Input Number Dataset: Paste or type numbers separated by commas, spaces, or newlines into the input box.
  2. Select Decimal Precision: Choose 2 decimals, 4 decimals, 6 decimals, or full raw precision.
  3. Review Primary Averages: Inspect the Arithmetic Mean (Sum ÷ Count) and Median (50th percentile) in the hero cards.
  4. Explore Statistical Metrics: Review Mode, Range, Min, Max, Sample Std Dev (s), Population Std Dev (σ), and Variance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Mean and Median?

The Mean is the arithmetic sum of all values divided by count (sensitive to extreme outliers). The Median is the exact middle value when numbers are sorted in ascending order (resilient against skewed outliers).

What is the Mode of a dataset?

The Mode is the number (or numbers) that appear with the highest frequency. A dataset can have one mode (unimodal), multiple modes (multimodal), or no mode if all numbers appear only once.

What is the difference between Sample and Population Standard Deviation?

Sample Standard Deviation divides by (n - 1) to provide an unbiased estimate when analyzing a subset of data. Population Standard Deviation divides by n when the entire complete population is known.

How large of a dataset can I analyze?

Because computation executes client-side, the calculator can instantly compute descriptive statistics for tens of thousands of data points.
